Flautist in the wind

Some time ago, a friend who is a flautist in Hawaii, asked me to take some photos of her for professional portfolio. She was going to be in the area in September.

Because she's a flautist, I thought to get some shots in the marshes in the area where reeds grow. Reeds / flutes..get it? Unfortunately, because of the time of the year, the reeds are pretty darn brown. But, she has a gold flute, so I figured, brown / gold...same coloration (although i would have preferred the contrasting green reeds).

Unfortunately, the day of the shoot, the weather turned and threatened rain. We got there with some pretty dramatic skies with bits of blue. The wind was also blowing, but not badly. The light was pretty even with the clouds. We shot in the reeds in her concert clothes (all black) as well as a bright leather jacket that she really loved. The wind blowing through her hair, which I thought somewhat apt. Reeds + wind + flautist...get it? LOL

Some school children on a field trip tromped by us, commenting on her flute, but not my camera gear. There was a whole herd (40 or so children) walking by on the boardwalk that cut through the marsh.

When the sky turned darker, we decided to wrap up for the day. Just as we left, the sky started opening up and within an hour, it was pouring rain. We concluded the rest of the shoot indoors.
