Impromptu Food Shots

My department at work had a late (really, an after) Christmas holiday party, and had chosen a company that gets you into groups and cook a dinner.

People would break up into teams and cook parts of a large meal. It's a team building event and very fun. Of course, I brought my camera with me, because it was a chance to not only chronicle the event, but some impromptu food shots.

Luckily, the area where we were cooking had plenty of light coming in through the very large bay windows that took up one wall and part of the ceiling. There was a lot of diffused light through the slightly cloudy day of the event.

I won't post photos of my kooky collegues at work, but I will post the food images I took at the event.

Now, I tried to get some decent shots, but this is really where a Food Artist comes into play. Some of my other photog friends have done food product shots and they always use a Food Artist to come in and really make the food stand out.

I had trouble arranging the food as to how I wanted it. Granted that people were preparing food around me and it only afforded me a few minutes, but I thought it might be nice to have someone expertly arrange the food.

And, of course, there were 'grease' stains from trying to rearrange certain cooked foods, like the lamb skewers, that would have been circumvented by a Food Artist. But, overall, not a bad shot (minus the grease stains).

I've seen some very good food product shots taken by photographers sitting at a restaurant for their meal. Of course, I'm not quite *there* yet, but I must say it was fun.

Especially, when you get to eat it afterwards :-)
